What are the dimensions?
Dimensions in mathematics are the measure of the size or distance of an object or region or space in one direction.
Dimensions are expressed as:
· Length
· Width
· Height
· depth
9
How many dimensions are there?
10
Shapes can be classified based on the numbers of dimensions in the shape.
Zero – dimensional
One – dimensional (1D)
Two – dimensional (2D)
Three – dimensional (3D)
11
Types of dimensions
Zero dimensional- A point is a zero-dimensional object as it has no length, width, or height. It has no size. It tells about the location only.
One dimensional - Only a single measurement is possible for a one-dimensional figure. A line segment drawn on a surface is a one-dimensional object, as it has only length and no width.
12
Types of dimensions
Two-dimensional– The shapes that have two dimensions – length and width. Two-dimensional or 2-D shapes do not have any thickness and can be measured in only two faces. 2D shapes are flat. 2D shapes have sides and vertices (corners).

3D shapes
3- dimensional (3D) shapes are solid shapes. They have 3 dimensions – length, width, and height.
3D shapes have faces, edges and vertices.
A face is a flat surface.
An edge is where two faces meet.
A vertex is a corner where edges meet. The plural is vertices.
A 3D shape will always occupies space.

What is symmetry?
Symmetry is when a shape can be folded over a straight line to make a mirror image of itself.
Something is symmetrical when it is same on both sides. Asymmetrical objects or shapes are not the same on both sides.
But symmetry often comes up in art and design activities too.
30
Lines of symmetry
31
Butterflies are symmetrical creatures!
If butterflies were folded in half, they would have the same shape and pattern on both sides.
Butterflies have 1 lines of symmetry.
