What is imagery?

- Descriptions that use sensory language to create mental images

(language that evokes the
senses: sight, sound, smell, touch,
and taste)

An author uses imagery to:

*describe a smell, sound, taste, image or touch to
help the reader experience these things as
well.

*This is why it is important to picture
things in your head as you read!
