62. 1st Grade SRR: Houses that Go Up

Look at this house! It stands up over water. Big logs lift it up so it will not get wet. The logs are stilts. It is a stilt house.

People get logs, grass, and sticks on land to make this house.

This is another house on stilts. It is in a hot, wet land that has lots of plants in it.

This house has thatch up on top. It slants so water runs off it. Pests like rats and frogs do not get into it.

This house is in another hot and wet land. Men cut notches in logs to help them grab onto the logs. Then they lug logs, sticks, and grass up and get it made.

It is just grand up at the top!

In the past, some people had big houses up on cliffs. Men cut rock into thick blocks and then stacked them. This gave them a way to see over hills and lands. It helped them fend off men with plans to rob them

Kids can play in houses that are up on big sticks. It is fun! This one is so big that people can live in it.

It has beds and lamps. It has hot water and bathtubs. It has spots to chat and catch a sunset. It is fun!

We can go up, up, up in this big house! It is not one big house. It is like lots of houses on top of one another.

Lots of us can fit in it! It is fun to go up and down its steps.
