Soon Mom, Dad, and I were walking down long flights of steps deep into the ground. That’s where the subway trains run. We will take a train to a park.

We had to wait for the train. I watched a few people smile and sing songs while we waited. People started to clap and drop money for them into a hat.

I heard a train before I saw it rolling up the tracks. It sounded much louder than the cars and trucks above us as it sped at us with brakes howling and came to a stop.

Mom looked at the train and let us know it wasn’t the right train for us. When the right train came, Mom and Dad held my hands. We had to stick together in the crowd.

Our train zoomed through dark tunnels. Lights flashed past my window. I counted the stops. Then it was our stop, and Mom said, “This is where we get off. Let’s go!”

We walked up steep flights of steps and came to a part of town that looked new to us. We went into a lush, green park.

We could see a big crowd and hear a booming voice saying that a show would be starting soon. Wow! This place is not like my hometown at all.

A man pressed a button and sounds rocked the park. His songs had such a good sound that Mom and I started to clap and tap our feet. Dad started to dance.

Then the man started to dance. His feet slid into dance steps with ease. He looked like he could be on slick ice, the way he seemed to glide and still not miss a beat.

Then he did flips and walked on his hands. He was bending, jumping, and turning to the beat like a rubber band!

“Wow!” I sighed. “How did he do that?”

After that, a girl got down on the ground and started to spin fast, like a top. Then she started to spin just as fast on her head, maybe faster! It looked like she could keep going and never stop.

Mom, Dad, and I had fun watching this show—for free! It was such a blast doing new things on this trip into town.
