Now it is late in the day. Mom and Dad tell me we have one more place to go before we start to head for home.
“Where will we go?” I ask them.
“We’re going up,” Dad tells me. He looks up and points. I crane my neck to see where Dad is pointing.
“We’re going to the very top,” Mom says.
3
We step in, and Dad presses the top button. The doors start to shut when we hear a voice say, “Hold the doors, please!”
Dad holds them, and a man gets in with us. He smiles and nods to Dad. Then more people fit in. At last the doors glide shut, and we are on our way up.
We zoom up to the top.

“Let’s step outside,” says Mom. “Hang on to your hat. The breeze whips by up here with a lot of force.”
Mom is right! It feels as if the breeze whisks my words right out of my mouth! We are up so high! When I look down, the people look like ants, and the cars look like little toy cars.
5
Mom hands me a coin, and I drop it into a slot. I peer through two holes for my eyes. I can see even more now because I can see so very far.
I see birds resting on a ledge and a girl planting seeds in a rooftop garden. Cats nap on a bench near her. There is so much to see!
6
The sun is starting to set. Lights start to blink on in windows. Boy, is this fun!
Mom looks at her watch and says, “I think it’s time for us to go home.”
“Yes, let’s call it a day,” says Dad.
I think about Roy Clark and the game. I think about the park. I ask if we can make one last stop.
7
“Where do you want to stop?” asks Dad. “A toy shop?”
“No,” I answer him. “I want to go to a bookstore so I can get a new notebook. I want to write a story about things we did today. I don’t want to forget a thing.”
Then I added, “Thanks so much, both of you. This was just the best trip to town!”
