Do you like riding bikes? I do! I go biking all the time. I use this bike when I ride in the woods.

There are lots of good trails for biking in these woods. One trail has a long hill that’s lined with logs. My bike goes skipping and hopping over the logs each time I zip down that hill.

I also race with this bike. I started racing last fall. On each race day, I check my bike to make sure all of its parts are working the way they should be. I test its brakes, pump up its tires, and oil its chain. I fix anything that needs work. These steps help keep me safe in every race.

Last week I had a big race. My mom and dad drove me there. My bike was tied onto the roof of the car. It felt funny to be riding in a car with a bike perched on top of it.

Before we left, I filled my water bottle and crammed all my stuff into my bag. Then I grabbed this hard thing for my head. I never go riding without it!

The race started on the peak of a huge hill. My bike flew down the hill, wheels spinning so fast that clumps of dirt were spitting out on all sides of my tires.

I started braking when I saw the first turn coming up. I didn’t brake too hard because I didn’t want to start skidding. If I skidded, I could fall, and it hurts to fall off a bike!

The trail weaved into a thicker patch of woods. I zigzagged and bumped my way over rocks and tree roots as I sped down the trail.

My wheels gripped dirt, and I kept my gaze fixed on the steep trail I was flying down. There was no stopping me! I was in the zone!

The trail dipped and turned hard. Then it went up, leading to a ramp jump. I hit the ramp, popped it, and then glided back down to the trail with ease.

I flew past the finish line, beating my best time and clocking in the best time that day. I came in first! My mom was smiling and clapping, and my dad took pictures.
