70. 1st Grade SRR: Phil Can Help

Phil likes to draw. He draws Miss Rose and Hope. “Mom,” he asks, “may I show it to Miss Rose?”

“Let me check with her,” Mom tells him as she phones Miss Rose. Mom lets Phil know she is outside.

Miss Rose smiles as she steps in. “This is Hope and me! You draw well, Phil. Can you dig well, too?”

Phil laughs and asks why. Just then, Phil’s dad comes home and gives Phil and his mom a big hug.

“I have a big job for Phil,” Miss Rose tells his mom and dad. “He will like it. It has mud,” she adds.

Miss Rose has eight plants to plant. Phil helps carry them. Then he digs eight holes for them.

Phil helps pick up when he and Miss Rose are done. He finds Hope in the shed next to a big pot.

“This is no place for you to hide, Hope,” he said. “Let me get you inside and into bed.”

Phil picks up Hope and sets her on her bed. Then he goes to sit with Miss Rose.

“You did a fine job, Phil,” Miss Rose tells him. “It looks quite nice.”

“I am glad you like it,” he tells her.
