75. 1st Grade SRR: Quack Pack Badges

When the next day began, June went over the Quack Pack tune. The ducks quacked big quacks and little quacks.

“Ducks get badges when they do skills well,” June tells them. “These are tune badges to keep on your sashes.”

June points to a big duck and tells the Quack Pack that his name is Doc Gene. “Doc will judge your duck skills and help you get badges,” she adds.

“Ducks eat bugs,” said Doc Gene. “Go eat bugs and get bug badges.”

Pete snaps up bugs he sees in a hedge. “Yum!” quacks Pete. He bites a red ant, but he spits it out fast. “This ant is bad!” he yells in a big voice.

Doc Gene hands Pete and five other ducks bug badges with a wide smile.

“Next on the list, Quack Pack, are swim badges. Let’s get to work!” June tells them. The ducks and Doc Gene dash to the lake in a rush to swim.

Pete is not with them. Pete is with June at the edge of the lake.

“I won’t swim! You cannot make me!” Pete quacks to June. “I do not like to be wet.”

“Ducks swim,” June tells him. “Step in, Pete!” Pete shakes his head. He will not budge. He will not get wet.

June passes out swim badges, and Pete does not get one. “I will help you with that badge next time,” June tells him. “You can do it, Pete.”

“Don’t be sad,” said Doc Gene. “This skill takes more time for some ducks.”
