A globe shows what our world looks like. If you look at one, you can see how much is blue. The blue on the globe is water.
Our world has much more water than land. You can find water in the sea and in lakes, ponds, rivers, and creeks. Water can be in small puddles or huge lakes. It is all around us.
3
Water takes different forms. It falls down from the sky as drops of rain and also as hail, sleet, or snow. It runs into creeks and rivers. It flows into lakes and into the sea.
Water can become a gas and rise back up into the sky. The water droplets join and form clouds. Then they will fall down to our world again as rain, sleet, snow, or ice.
4
All living things need water. Plants need it to grow. Plants use their roots to get water. The roots go down into the ground and take in water from the ground.
Like plants, animals need water. Wild animals find it in ponds, lakes, and creeks. Birds drink from puddles or birdbaths. Cows and sheep drink fresh water from big tubs.
5
Humans need water, too. Pipes bring clean water into homes.
How do you use water? You need it for taking baths and to wash your hands. You need it for keeping teeth clean. You need it for cooking. You need to drink it to stay in good shape.
Do you add ice cubes to drinks to make them cold? Ice is just frozen water!
6
Some people do not have clean water that comes from pipes. They must go to pumps or wells to get water. Then they lug it home in pails or bottles.
People who live in dry lands with just a little water might hike for miles to get to it. Then every last drop must be used. Water is like gold in these dry lands.
7
It is good to use water wisely. Do not let it run down the drain for a long time when you brush your teeth. Try not to waste water. You can also catch rain in buckets and use it to help garden plants grow.
You can pick up trash to keep creeks and lakes clean or help clean up beaches. We can all help protect water in our world.
