Density Basics

Important things to know

  • The density of a substance is the mass of 1 cm3 of it.

  • The unit of density is grams per cubic centimetre, written g cm-3.

  • Iron has a density of 7.8 g cm-3. This means that each cubic centimetre of iron has a mass of 7.8 g.
