How to multiply 1-digit by 2-digits

13

x 3

_____

3 9

1. First, we multiply the first digit by the first

digit on the top (3x3) which equals 9 so we put

the number 9 in the bottom of the 3.

2. Second, we multiply the first digit by

the second digit on top (1x3) or (10x3)

which equals 3 and we will put it in the

bottom of the 1.

Using your Time table

sheet may help you find

the answers for your

multiplaction.

1. Multiply the

first digit by the first
digit on top (8x8) which

is 64. There are 2 digits so you

put the first digit (4) under 8

and second digit (6) under 4 in the

right.

2. You multiply the second digit

on top by the first digit on

the bottom and you would

multiply 8x8 which is 64. This is

where it gets tricky. So you add

the remaining number from the first

multiplication (8x8) but now we are multiplying

80x8. 64+6=70 so you would cross out the 6

and put the 70 below the second digit (8).
