Basketball is a popular sport all around the world. It is played by two teams, with five players on each team. The objective of the game is to score points by throwing a ball through a hoop that is mounted 10 feet high on a backboard. 

There are many rules in basketball, and they can be different depending on where you are playing. For example, in some places, you can only dribble the ball with one hand, while in others, you can use both hands. 

Basketball was invented in 1891 by a man named James Naismith. He was trying to come up with a new game that could be played indoors during the winter months. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. 

Today, basketball is played at all levels, from amateur to professional. Some of the best players in the world play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States.
