Fast Fashion
What can we do about it?
2
There are a few causes behind fast fashion:
Fast Changing Trends.
These cause people to constantly be aiming for the 'trendiest' item, creating a constant shift in what's popular and causing people to be constantly buying new clothes. This means that companies have to attempt to keep up, resulting in a much quicker and cheaper rate of production.
Fast Use.
Generally, clothes aren't worn very many times, with the average item of clothing is worn only 14 times. This is due to a combination of our culture (people generally consider items that have been worn only a few times to be old), and the low production costs of fashion, making items begin to break after only a few uses.
There's more causes out there, we just chose to list these two specifically!
What causes it?
Fast Fashion is what the name suggests, Fashion that is "fast". The production, delivery, and lifespan of clothes is "fast", and purchased items are usually only used a few times before being thrown away.
This has had significant negative impacts on the environment, workers, and culture as a whole.

QUIZ TIME! Here's the RULES.
1. No looking back on slides to get the correct answer! This is just a bit of fun, but you'll make it boring by cheating!
2. Grouping up is allowed, but you're not allowed to take answers from other groups!
If you REALLY don't want to engage you don't have to follow these rules, but the more you follow them, the more fun you can have!
Nothing too crazy, have fun!

As Christians, what can we do about Fast Fashion?
Fast Fashion goes against the Christian belief in Stewardship. Christians aim to be Stewards of the world by maintaining it and ensuring it is in a good condition to be passed down to the next generation. This means that we have to aim to be sustainable and not leave a negative impact on the environment while also sustaining the population, which is becoming increasingly difficult as the Earth's population increases.
Fast Fashion goes against this belief, tearing down the environment and leaving the world in an objectively worse state by destroying the environment. (Not-so-fun-fact: There's a rubbish heap 3x the size of France in the ocean!)
As Christians, we should aim towards moving AWAY from Fast Fashion culture, in order to build a better world for future generations.
Firstly, buy clothes from more ethical brands! Yes, it'll require research to figure out whether a brand is ethical or not, but both you and the wider world will be a lot better off!
Secondly, buy second hand! There's a negative stigma attached to places like charity shops, but they can sell some good quality clothes for a good price! Even if this doesn't seem appealing to you, it's definitely worthwhile.
If you're interested in finding other ways to move away from Fast Fashion, carry out some further research. These are just two simple ways to go about it.
