Why do you think this blob represents how you feel towards Term 3?

11

Our feelings provide us with important information about ourselves and how we view our situation.

Being aware of our feelings allows us to explore the underlying reasons for our feelings, and if necessary, to take active steps to manage them.

12

Term 3 is a busy term with more demands.

We may be excited about them, and at the same time, feel the pressure and expectations placed on us.

  • Preparing for CCA competitions

  • Stepping up to leadership responsibilities

  • Weighted assessments

  • Keeping up with my social life

  • Planning for/ leading in school events

    (RHD, Teachers’ day)

  • Participating in school camps

14

Open Ended

What are some of the expectations that you will be facing?

15

Poll

Where do these expectations come from?

Self

Teachers

Family

Classmates/Friends

16

When do these expectations become too much for me to handle for me?

Expectations become unrealistic when they are too far away from what we are currently able to achieve within the given amount of time, or the resources and skills/knowledge we have, causing us to feel overly stressed.

17

 Managing Expectations

  • Setting unrealistic expectations can have negative impact on our well-being and self-esteem.

  • Hence, it is important for us to be able to evaluate and adjust our expectations.

  • Setting realistic expectations helps us feel inspired and motivated to do better even when falling short of goals.

18

So how do we manage these expectations?

  • Plan out smaller goals towards what you set out to achieve

  • Talk to the person setting these expectations about how you feel, and discuss how you can plan out smaller goals together
