Why do we need to know our Heritage?

There is a connection between the past and the future.

Heritage is comprised of many factors from which you cannot separate yourself, such as genetics and events.

Knowing about your heritage is a great way to find yourself.

In fact, it’s unfortunate to have a rich heritage and not know about it, especially since it’s part of who you are.

Knowing your heritage can contribute to the building of character and enhance your life.

The Mahanadi is one of the major
rivers of India, flowing east and
draining into the Bay of Bengal. It
drains an area of around 141,600
square kilometer and a total course
of 858 km. The river flow through
the state of Chhattisgarh and
Odisha.

originating place of Mahanadi River, which is called as holy Ganga in
Chhattisgarh and Odisha is located near the Ashram of Maharshi
Shrangi.

came at this place for taking holy bath in

Mahakumbh

. The

Maharshi

was under

meditation and penance at that time. The

sages waited for several days to draw the

attention of the Maharshi but the

Maharshi’s meditation was not disrupted.

Thereafter, the sages went for the holy

bath. While returning after the bath, all

the sages brought some holy water with

them. Finding that Maharshi

Shrangi

was

still in the meditation, they filled the

Maharshi’s

kamandal

(vessel) with water,

and returned to their native places.

After some time, when the meditation of

the Maharshi

Shrangi

was disrupted, the

kamandal’s

water fell

on the ground with

the stroke of his hand. This water began

to flow towards east and was converted

into a stream. This stream was called as

Mahanadi which is said to fulfill the

desires of millions of people.

Bhattarika temple is at the base of hill Ratnagiri and just by the side of
river Mahanadi. There is a statue of Sri Parasuram who was one of the
ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu. As per Hindu mythology Parasuram prayed

goddess Durga here to defeat Sahasrajuna. The temple exist at the
place in the appearance of goddess Durga in the name of Bhattarika.

Laxman Temple

Laxman temple is considered as one of the finest brick temples of India. The temple has a beautiful beautiful Sheshnaag serving as an umbrella to Lord Vishnu at the entrance. The temple is famous for its unique Symmetry, precise construction and exquisite carvings.

Gandheswar Temple

This is another interesting attraction on the banks of river Mahanadi. The Gandheshwar Temple, as the name suggests, was built using the ruins of many other temples and Vihars in that area. For the same reason, one would be amused to see different styles of architecture and carvings on the structures inside the temple. Historic remains from different temples collectively formed this beautiful temple which later became a place of interest among tourists. The temple includes a Buddha statue that touches the ground, idol of Natraj, Garud Narayan, pictures of Shiv-Leela, an exceptional depiction of Ravan's face, Mahisasur Mardini, etc.

Leaning Temple of Huma

The Leaning Temple of Huma situated on the bank of the Mahanadi in Odisha is
also a well known religious spot. Dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, it is the only
leaning temple in the world.

Rajim Temple

Rajim is famous for its rich cultural heritage and beautiful ancient temples. The holy confluence of three rivers Mahanadi (Chitrotpala), Pairi and Sondur, called Triveni Sangam is at Rajim. Rajim is also known as the “Prayag” of Chhattisgarh.
