Excel Module 1 Vocabulary

Excel

Software program created by Microsoft that was spreadsheets to organize numbers and data with formulas and functions

Workbook

A workbook is a spreadsheet program file you create in Excel.  A workbook contains one or more worksheets.

Worksheet

Also known as a spreadsheet consists of cells in which you can enter and calculate data.

Name Box

Located on the left side of the Excel Window. It is used to give a name to a table or cell. 

Labels

The term label usually refers to the text that you typed in the cell. 

Values

Gives the Value of a text representing a number.

Relative Cell Reference

Basic cell reference that adjust and change when copied or when using Auto Fill

Formula

Is an expression that operates on values in a range of cells.

Function

A predefined formula that performs calculations using specific values in a particular order.    

Backstage View  

The are in the Excel program window where you can manipulate the properties of the Excel file itself.
