Seek To Have The Holy Ghost With You

You received the gift of the Holy Ghost when you were confirmed a member of the Church. As a missionary—and throughout your life—one of your greatest needs will be to have the Holy Ghost with you.

Study the following verses and be ready to answer the question below:

Question: As a missionary, why is it important to seek having the Holy Ghost with us always?

1 Nephi 10:17

" And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God—and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come—I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men." 

3 Nephi 28:11

" And the Holy Ghost beareth record of the Father and me; and the Father giveth the Holy Ghost unto the children of men, because of me." 

Ether 12:41

" And now, I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever. Amen."

Seeking to have the Holy Ghost with you should be one of your most earnest desires

You will feel of His companionship as you:

• Pray (see Doctrine and Covenants 42:14).

• Treasure up God’s word (see Doctrine and Covenants 11:21; 84:85).

• Purify your heart (see Doctrine and Covenants 112:28).

• Keep the commandments (see Doctrine and Covenants 130:20–21).

• Partake of the sacrament each week (see Moroni 4–5; Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79).
