What is an "infinitive" verb?

Infinitive

  • In English, our infinitive verbs are easy to spot. They also begin with "to".

  • To run, to talk, to eat, to sleep, etc.

  • In Spanish, we know that our infinitives always end in either AR, ER, or IR.

  • NOTICE how they are not yet conjugated in the infinitive form.

Talkin' about the future!

  • Just as in English, you would say "I'm going to...", in Spanish you would use...

    • IR + A + INFINITIVE VERB

  • I'm going to play tennis --> Yo voy a jugar tenís

  • Are you going to study today? --> ¿Vas a estudiar hoy?

  • My friends are going to camp. --> Mis amigos van a acampar
