I. What is an Ecosystem?

The world “ecology” comes from the word
“oikos”, a Greek word meaning house

Ecology is the study of interactions of living
organisms with one another and with their physical
environment.

Biotic and abiotic factors

● Biotic factors= living things
- Plants, animals, fungi, bacteria

● Abiotic factors= nonliving components that

shape an organism's’ habitat

- Temperature, precipitation, sunlight,

chemical composition
