There was a robot named Alif. Alif helped people to go to faraway places. He got bored of doing
the same thing every day. “I wish I could be a human,” he thought. That night, Alif went to sleep as
usual but when he woke up, he was not a robot any more. He was a human. Alif’s wish came true. He
was so happy. Soon he noticed that no one recognized him as Alif. He was just another regular boy.
When he looked around, he found people looking for Alif. He saw that people were sad as they could
not go to far off places. They missed Alif a lot. Every night after that, Alif wished he could become
a robot again but when he woke up in the morning, he was still a human. Alif decided to leave the
city. After he walked for a long time, he became tired. He found a Ghaf tree and sat under the tree
to rest.
He began to cry. Suddenly the Ghaf tree started to talk. Alif was surprised to see a talking tree.
She said her name is Salama. Salama asked “Alif, why are you sad?”
“I was a robot. I used to take people to far off places once, but now I am a boy because I wished
so and now I cannot turn back into a robot. The people in my city needs me but I cannot help them,”
cried Alif. Salama told him not to worry. “I am a magical tree. I have the power to grant one wish of
a helpful friend. Keep resting here.” Alif was tired and he slept off under the tree. When he woke
up, he was surprised to see himself as a robot again. He felt excited. He smiled at his new friend
Salama, the ghaf tree. “You shall always remain my best friend,” said Alif.
