​Revolt Of 1857 and some of its causes

• discrimination

• women encouraged to take up western learning

• taxing lands that belong to temples and mosque hurt the religious sentiments of the people.

• The policies of British were not in favour of the Indians

• Land Revenue policies made peasants life though

• A new class took the place of old zamindars

• Machine made goods from Britian were cheaper, thus the traditional Indian handicrafts industry was ruined

• salaries were low in comparison of British soldiers

• they did not get equal opportunities of promotion

• prohibiting the use of cate marks

• - there was a law in which every new recruit had to serve overseas which was a violation of their religious sentiment

• Enfield Riffles - The catridge of these riffles had a greased paper around which they had to bite to load the riffle , a rumor spread that the this paper was coated by fat of cows and pigs this was against the belief of both hindus and muslims.

• The British massacred the people and and burned down villages

• The British tried to win the support of people by announcing rewards.

• mobilised all the forces and placed placed troops under the best commanders.
