INTRODUCTION

The given chart compare differences in the supply and demand and illustrate job prospect of UK steel industry in a 30-year period from 1970.

OVERVIEW

Overall, the UK’s total demand and supply of steel were on significant falls while the opposite was true to imported steel though its figure never dominated domestic production. Meanwhile, the labour force working in steel industry was directly proportional with the overall downfall of steel value.

According to the line graph, in 1970 UK required 200000 tonnes of steel of which 170000 tonnes were produced domestically. The following two decades experienced downswings in UK total need and supply of steel to 110000 and 90000 tonnes respectively before these figures aligned identically on a slight fall of 20000 at the end of the period. Contrastingly, the value of imported steel rose gradually from just 10000 to nearly surpass domestic’s value in 2000.
