Open Ended
Describe the appearance of the hydra.
2
HYDRA
A new hydra starts as a “bud” forming on the side of a hydra's body; it grows and eventually breaks away as a clone of the original.
3
Open Ended
How does the hydra move and what are the ''buds'' for?
4
Movement and Budding
The hydras usually move by looping and somersaulting, by attaching the tentacle ends and pulling themselves along. When there is an insufficient supply of oxygen, hydras move to regions of higher oxygen content.
The small bud then receives its nutrition from the parent hydra and grows healthy. Growth starts by developing small tentacles and the mouth.
5
Multiple Choice
Is hydra an animal or plant?
Animal
Plant
6
Multiple Choice
what type of reproduction is the hydra?
Asexual
Sexual
7
Asexual- only a single organism is involved.
There are different processes involved in asexual reproduction:
Fission or binary fission
Budding
Regeneration
8
Multiple Choice
Which asexual reproduction is mostly observed in bacteria and amoeba?
Fission/Binary Fission
Budding
Regeneration
9
Fission/Binary Fission
The simplest form of asexual reproduction
A parent splits into two identical daughter cells
Bacteria, amoeba, and sea anemone
10
FISSION/BINARY FISSION
11
Multiple Choice
What type of asexual reproduction where the new individual animal is an outgrowth of cells of the parent organism?
Budding
Fission/Binary Fission
Regeneration
12
Budding
Is growing a new individual from a bud
Sponges, hydra, flatworms
The bud enlarges, takes the form of the parent and then breaks off as a new individual
13
BUDDING
14
Multiple Choice
What type of asexual reproduction refers to the an animal divides into one or more fragments?
Budding
Fission/Binary Fission
Regeneration
15
Flatworms, marine worms
A broken part is replaced by regenerating the missing part (like starfish and earthworm)
Regeneration

(List at least 3 disadvantages and 3 advantages)
