Long, long ago, in the 1460s, a brave explorer named Juan Ponce de León was born in Spain. When he grew up, he sailed across the seas with Christopher Columbus in 1493 and later became the governor of Puerto Rico. In 1513, he set foot in a land he called Florida, making history by being one of the first Europeans to explore what would become the United States. Sadly, his adventures ended in 1521 when he passed away in Cuba.
