Open Ended
What has Jacquard's loom got to do with computers?
3
The Jacquard loom used instructions on Punch cards and was able to quickly manufacture complex patterns in cloth
4
Open Ended
What was the job of computer operators?
5
It was the job of an Operator to feed in the batch of cards, correct jams and schedule when the next program could be run
6
Open Ended
What company was the largest manufacturer of computers?
7
The biggest company that used punch cards was International Business Machines, now known by the abbreviation IBM
8
Open Ended
What replaced punch cards?
9
Today, the role of punch cards for storing programs and data has been taken over by devices such as disks, cloud storage, and USB memory

What is an operating system?
An operating system is the most important software that runs on a computer.
It manages the computer's memory and processes, as well as all of its
software and hardware.
It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to
speak the computer's language.
Without an operating system, a computer is useless.
