Definition

Degrees of comparison = tingkat perbandingan
--> are used when we compare one person or one thing to another

There are 3 degrees

• Nita is taller than her sister

• This dress is prettier than yours.

• This bag is more expensive than Gucci

​​The positive degree of comparison is basically the original form of the adjective.

​​compare between two nouns that have the same quality.

​​It is used to compare the similar qualities shared by more than two nouns

• Lisa is happy

• This dress is pretty

• He looks handsome

• This house is empty

• Lisa is happier than yesterday

• This house is bigger than my house

• He looks more handsome than his brother

• Lisa is the happiest girl in the class

​Comparative degree rules:

One syllable
Subject + to be (is/am/are) + adjective + er + than + Object

Two syllables or more
Subject + to be (is/am/are) + more + adjective + than + Object

​Example: 1 syllable

• Nita is prettier than her sister

• The dictionary is thicker than the Bible

• I think it is cooler in the class room than outside

• Ferrari is faster than Porsche

• Ms. Sinta is younger than my mom

​Example: 2 syllable or more

• Nita is more beautiful than her sister

• The Oxford Dictionary is more expensive than Indonesian Dictionary

• I think it is more comfortable in the class room than outside

• Ferrari is more expensive than Porsche

• Ms. Sinta is more energetic than my mom
