David, the Little Boy

1 Samuel 16-17

David was a little boy. He was playing Psalm 23 on His harp, “The lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.”

His fathers sheep gathered around David, He felt happy. Then one of David's brothers came and told him that their father was

asking for him. David said who will I leave the sheep with? His brother said their father said to leave them with one of the

shepherds, and to come right away.

David immediately left his sheep and went to his house with his brother. As soon as they entered, he found his father with all

his seven brothers, Samuel the prophet welcomed David, then he took the horn of oil and poured the oil on his head, and

David felt the power of the spirit fill him.

The prophet congratulated David and said “The Lord has chosen you to be King over His people.”When the prophet left, David asked his father, why didn't he choose one of the older brothers? David was young and not experienced. His
father said I have introduced them to Him but every time, the Lord would say, “Do not look at his appearance, for man looks at the outside but the Lord looks

at the heart.”

It was so strange that the spirit of the lord departed from Saul the king, and
often a spirit would come over David and trouble David day and night. David

would relax for a while when he listened to pleasant music.

Saul would ask David to play music for him because of his love for it, especially

when David composed tunes for the Psalms and Praises to the Lord.

David wrote beautiful songs called psalms to praise God and to proclaim His love for David and Davids love for Him.

“David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well,

and the distressing spirit would depart from him” (1 Samuel 16:23)
