1

Let us be honest with one another and ourselves....

2

Poll

What was your gut reaction when you got Friday's test?

What even is this? This lady is out of control.

I am in trouble.

This is going to be easy.

I will be OK.

3

Honest truth: This class only gets more challenging moving forward.

4

Honest truth: I do not feel joy from your failure. When you do not do well, I take it personally.

Joy comes to me when I see you get it, when I see you earn your success, when I see you being your best self, when I see you happy, when I see you thriving. I do not see joy in your stress, joy in your sorrow, joy in your worry.

5

Hard to accept but it is unreasonable...

to expect an "A" with little to no effort on your part.

1. Things will be hard and that is OK.
2. It is completely acceptable to get a B or C when you are working your tail off.
3. If you waste time, your grade will reflect that.

6

Always with friends

Always with help from someone at home

A mix of self, friends and people at home

8

Poll

When did you study?

The night before or day before ONLY

The day of ONLY, at lunch or some other time before the test

A few days just the week before

I started studying last week and have been studying a little at a time since then

9

For a test of this magnitude...

You should have spent NO LESS than 4 hours studying, at a minimum.

You have to study the way that is best for you BUT if what you did this time was not successful, you may want to try something else next time.

Try things like flash cards, have a friend or parent quiz you, make a study guide.

10

Poll

True or false: Mrs. J gave you about 95% of the answers to the test.

TRUE

FALSE

11

If you didn't do what you needed to in order to do well, that is on you.

Accept it, understand why and do better. Period.
Don't blame anyone or anything else if you didn't put in the effort to do well.

If this is on me, I will take responsibility.

If I give a test and have no one score an A, have half of my class at 65 or below, see a question that most of my student get wrong, I make changes to account for fairness to you. When that happens, I am open and honest.

That is not what happened this time. I have all grades with a lot of my students scoring A's and B's.
