Domain, Range and End Behavior

2

Purpose?

3

The range consists of the corresponding f (x) or y values.

Range

The domain consists of x values for which the function is defined or on which the real-world situation is based.

4

End behavior

The end behavior describes what happens to the f (x) values as the x values increase without bound or decrease without bound.

5

who do you find them?

Domain & Range

One way to identify the domain and range of functions is by using graphs. Because the domain refers to the set of possible input values, the domain of a graph consists of all the input values shown on the x-axis. The range is the set of possible output values, which are shown on the y-axis.

To determine the domain of a graph we must ONLY look at the x-coordinates and check the maximum and minimum values on graph.
EX: (-3, 1].

To determine the domain of a graph we must ONLY look at the y-coordinates and check the maximum and minimum values on graph.
EX: [-4, 0).

8

We can determine the end behavior by looking at the leading term of the function. Depending on the sign of the coefficient and the parity of the exponen, the end behavior differs;
