When ?

We use the Past Simple to talk about things that did or did not happen at a certain time in the past.

Ex. I lived in Utrecht last year.

played a soccermatch last weekend.

Mind your spelling!

When a verb ends in the letter '-e', you only add the letter -d
Ex. like --> liked

When a verb consists of 1 syllable (lettergreep), a short vowel, and a consonant letter, you double the consonant before you add '-ed'
Ex. shop --> shopped

When a verb ends in a consonant letter and the letter '-y', you drop the '-y' and add '-ied'
Ex. cry --> cried
