Professionalism
Think about it……
Why is it important to be professional at work?
What does it mean to you to be professional?
7
Professionalism at RSD EDP
●Be on time
○Allow time to find parking, account for school drop off/pick up traffic
■If your shift starts at 2:00pm, that means you are ready to check in students
at 2:00pm, not walking in at 2:00pm.
●Appropriate work attire
○Staff must wear an EDP shirt/EDP apron/CVUSD swag wear/School Site swag
wear AND District ID badge with lanyard at all times
○You should be identifiable as a staff on campus
○Clothes should be clean and professional in appearance
○Closed toed shoes with slip resistant soles. No crocks
●Remember you are a role model
○Remain professional with your words and conversations with students and staff
8
Cell phones
●Cell phones are to be kept away while at work AT ALL
TIMES
○Please do NOT:
■Give your number out to students, or ask for their
numbers
■Text with students
■Take pictures/videos of students
■Post anything on social media
If you need to take a call, inform the other staff that you need to
take the call. Step away from the group of students. Finish your
call as quickly as possible and return to your group.
9
10
Building Healthy Relationships
●Greet staff/students with a smile! Ask how their
day is going. YOU set the tone for the
morning/afternoon
●Get to know your students. Their likes/dislikes.
●Listen to them, get on their level. Always
communicate in a calm positive tone.
●Students want to be respected, valued and loved
Think about how you welcome your students.
How do you set the tone for the morning and
or afternoon?
If you aren't doing this now, what would you
want this to look like?
Turn to your neighbor and share
●Get to know our students
○Know their names
○Likes and dislikes
○Home/School
situation
○Their friends
○Listen to them
○RIASEC Code
11
Supervision - Sight and Sound
●Our job is to provide a fun , SAFE, engaging environment for students before/after school
●Make sure ALL students in your group are accounted for.
○Keep rosters and keep track of the students in your group

participate, providing leadership and good sportsmanship
●Staff should be SPREAD OUT while supervising students, especially in larger spaces such
as the playground or the MPR/auditorium
●Incidents/accidents MUST be reported to the EDP Lead and/or Admin
immediately. Especially ANY type of head injury.
●Staff might be asked to complete some sort of documentation of the
incident/accident
●Check in at the end of the day with any questions or concerns…

• Develop Fitness.
• Games should be adapted so that children are not
sitting out but continuing to actively participate in the
cooperative game.
• Remember, games are not played to “win” but should
encourage cooperative communication and team
building.
16
D.D.A.D.A.D.
• Describe: Brief description of the game
• Demonstrate: Quick demonstration using staff or
students
• Ask: Give students the opportunity to ask questions
• Do: Do the game
• Adapt: Adapt the game to make it more interesting

teamwork help you play the game?”
17
Cooperative Game Tips & Tricks
• Preparation is Important….
• Know what games are scheduled & what
you are responsible for
• Review the materials needed and have
them ready ahead of time
• Use poly spots, bubble cones, etc. to
establish safe boundaries
• Identify the grouping strategy you will use
• Keep groups small so all children have
multiple opportunities to participate
• Use Attention Getters, Validations and
Transition Strategies effectively
18
19
Attention Getters/Validations/Line Games/Brain Breaks/ Camp Songs
- 3 Simple Steps
Attention Getters
●These are used to get a group of students attention….
●The majority of students should respond
●Once they do make sure to pause for a moment before giving your instructions. This
ensures that you are not talking over an entire group of students.
Validations
●These are used to positively reinforce desired behavior...
●Can use this after the attention getter if several students are still talking for example…..
●“Thank you Bobby for focusing on me for direction” or
●“Amazing! Sally for doing the attention getter”

Transitions and Line Ups
Transitions
We use these to get our students in line in an
engaged, fun, and safe manner.
If we just tell our students to line up most
likely we are going to have students run to be
first.
Line Ups
We move around all over campus from one
rotation to another and a fun and safe way to get
our students to stay in line and walk with us is to
make a game out of it.
Example of how to get students in line….
“Line up if…”
You are wearing……(black pants, shorts with stripes,
shorts)
Your name starts with the letter….(T, M, E)
You have (color of eyes)......
Examples…..
Slinky-Pinky Walk
“Slinky, Slinky, oink, Soo Slinky!”
Elbows to knees
Back to Front
23
Brain Breaks
Bathroom/Water Break
Often used during our transition
times or times when students are
waiting in line or waiting to get lined
up for their ELOP clubs or sports.
Most often used when groups are at
their bathroom/water break
Examples of Brain Breaks…..
●I Spy
●Simon Says
●20 Questions
●Mental Math
●Willy Willy Bumble Bee,
24
Camp Songs
Camps songs are another fun way to keep students entertained
●During daily assembly
●Waiting to get lined up for ELOP rotations
●Walking in line
●Sitting in class waiting for art to get passed out
25
Camp Song: Boom Chicka Boom
26
Camp Songs- links

3 Simple Steps
Quick way to give a set of
directions
We want to give our directions quickly
and efficiently.
One way to do that is in 3 simple steps.
For example
●Step 1: I am going to dismiss you
by grade to pick up 10 pieces
●Step 2: Show a staff member/
throw away
●Step 3: Grab your backpacks and
line up at the pole
