​ประธานเป็นผู้กระทำ -- Active Voice
ประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำ --Passive Voice

​หลักการเปลี่ยนประโยค Active Voice เป็น Passive Voice

     1. นำ กรรม (Object) ของประโยค Active
ไปเป็นประธาน (Subject) ของประโยค Passive 
     2. ใช้ Verb to be : is, am, are, was, were, been, being ให้ถูกต้องตาม tense และสัมพันธ์กับประธาน 
     3. เปลี่ยนคำกริยาแท้ในประโยคเดิมให้เป็น V.3
     4. นำประธานของประโยค Active ไปเป็นกรรมของ Passive โดยวางไว้หลัง by

​ถ้าในประโยคมีกรรมสองตัวคือ กรรมตรง (Direct Object) เป็นสิ่งของ และ กรรมรอง (Indirect Object) เป็นคน เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็นประโยค Passive มักนำกรรมรอง (คน) มาเป็นประธาน แต่ถ้าจะนำกรรมตรง (สิ่งของ) มาเป็นประธานจะต้องใส่ to ที่หน้ากรรมรอง (คน) 

Active: She gave me the letter.
Passive: I was given the letter by her.
           The letter was given to me by her.

​ในประโยค active คำกริยา hear, help, see และ make จะตามด้วย bare infinitive  (infinitive without to)
แต่เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็นประโยค passive จะตามด้วย to-infinitive

     ตัวอย่างเช่น    
Tina’s mum made her clean her room.

Tina was made to clean her room by her mum.

​Let เมื่ออยู่ในประโยค passive จะเปลี่ยนเป็น be allowed to  ตัวอย่างเช่น        
My mum let me go to the cinema.

      I was allowed to go to the cinema.

The teacher let the children leave early.

The children were allowed to leave early.

​ประโยคคำถามในรูป passive จะใช้หลักการเช่นเดียวกันกับประโยคบอกเล่า และควรจดจำไว้ว่าคำกริยาจะต้องเรียงลำดับตามโครงสร้างของประโยคคำถาม  ตัวอย่างเช่น        
Have they announced the news yet?

       Has the news been announced yet?

       Have they opened the new shopping centre
yet?

      Has the new shopping centre been opened
(by them) yet?

​เมื่อเราต้องการระบุบุคคลหรือสิ่งที่เป็นผู้กระทำ ประโยคคำถามในรูปของ passive คือ  Who/What … by?

      ตัวอย่างเช่น        
What was this accident caused by?

      Who was the book written by?

​คำกริยาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการพูดหรือการคิด เช่น คำว่า think, believe, say, report, know,

consider, presume, hope เป็นต้น มักจะตามด้วยรูป to-infinitive ในประโยค passive

ตัวอย่างเช่น        
Active: The police think he is in Argentina.

Passive: He is thought to be in Argentina.

​โดยรูปของ to-infinitive ในประโยค passive มี 4 รูปด้วยกัน ได้แก่

         Simple:   to write

Continuous:   to be writing

       Perfect:    to have written

Perfect continuous:  to have been writing

โดยเมื่อเปลี่ยนประโยค active ให้เป็น passive นั้น
มีวิธีการดังนี้

​1. ให้นำประธานของประโยคที่ 2 มาเป็นประธานของประโยค passive
Active: The police think he is in Argentina.

   ตัวอย่างเช่น    He is thought to be in Argentina.

2. เปลี่ยนคำกริยาในประโยคนำ หรือ reporting verb
ให้อยู่ในรูป passive โดยใช้ tense เดียวกับในประโยค active

   ตัวอย่างเช่น    He is thought to be in Argentina.

​ 3. เปลี่ยนคำกริยาในประโยคที่ 2 ให้อยู่ในรูป to-infinitive โดยใช้ tense เดียวกับในประโยค active

ตัวอย่างเช่น   He is thought to be in Argentina.

เราจะใช้ to-infinitive ในรูป tense นั้น ให้พิจารณาดังนี้

- ถ้าในประโยค active กล่าวถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในปัจจุบัน (present) หรืออนาคต (future) ในประโยค passive ให้ใช้ to-infinitive ในรูป simple tense (to + กริยาช่องที่ 1) เช่น to write

- ถ้าในประโยค active กล่าวถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต ไม่ว่าจะใช้ tenses ใด ต่อไปนี้ Past Simple, Past Perfect, Present Perfect ในประโยค passive ให้ใช้ to-infinitive ในรูป perfect tense (to + have + กริยาช่องที่ 3) เช่น to have written

- ถ้าในประโยค active กล่าวถึงเหตุการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้น หรืออยู่ในรูป continuous form ในประโยค passive ให้ใช้ to-infinitive ในรูป continuous form เช่นเดิม เช่น to be writing หรือ to have been
writing
