Computing Networks

  • Definition: Computing networks are interconnected systems that allow for the sharing of resources and information.
  • Types: Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), and the Internet.
  • Components: Servers, routers, switches, and client devices.
  • Protocols: TCP/IP, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and DNS.
  • Benefits: Efficient communication, resource sharing, and global connectivity.

Let's use the Sphero Mini robots to travel across the network.

Packet Post Race with Sphero Mini Version 2

Dodge the traffic running along the network to send the colour-coded message from the Server to the client using Sphero Play. Use blocks mode to travel and then also deliver your message.

Let's use the Sphero Mini robots to travel across the network.

What actually happens

The client makes a request.
The information would be broken up into bits where it would travel through the network to reach the appropriate server. The bits would travel in totally different ways - trying their best to avoid traffic.
The information would then make its way back to the client where the bits would be reassembled in the right order.
