1. What is kindness? Why is it important to be kind to others?

Vocabulary

• (to be) cruel to be kind (idiom) – to cause someone pain (physically or especially emotionally) in order to help them.
• random act of kindness (noun) – an unpremeditated act of kindness, usually towards a stranger, with no expectation of anything in return.
• (to depend on) the kindness of strangers (idiom) – (to rely on) the generosity of people you don’t know.
• (to give/lend) a (helping) hand (noun) – (to give) assistance/help.
• do-gooder (noun) – used to criticise someone who thinks they are helping or supporting others, but in reality, their actions are either unhelpful, unwanted or not considered genuine.
