FRIDAY DECEMBER 2023

Ready? Look for the study guide and assessment in Canvas, Thumbs up

Guess the mystery word today

The Chicxulub comet brought a _____ succession to the
Yucatan peninsula with added particulates in the air that

reduced the climate temperatures, so that mammals

become the dominant species no the reigning dinosaurs

2

Drag and Drop

The Chicxulub comet brought a
succession to the Yucatan peninsula from impact causing
to the land with added
in the air that reduced the climate temperatures, so that mammals become the dominant species no the reigning dinosaurs
Drag these tiles and drop them in the correct blank above
primary
secondary
particulates
incineration
apex

PRIMARY SUCCESSION

Primary Succession is when a new area of land is populated by a group of species for

the first time. This land is barren with no soil. The only species that could survive in
this barren land are what are called Pioneer Species. These species are low
maintenance- requiring minimum resources to survive. An example of a Pioneer
Species would be Lichen or Moss. These organisms can begin to break down rock to
slowly produce land that can be habitable to other types of species. Primary
Succession takes hundreds or thousands of years to reach a climax community.
A climax community is one that has the most biodiversity that can sustain the area.

When does Primary Succession Occur?

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DO

End of Semester Mastery project

I can make a food web from a coastal marine biome(coral reef)

I can identify the difference between biotic and abiotic factors roles in an
ecosystem.

I can identify global influences on the area being studied.

11

The Yucutan peninsula and South American Safari

media

We are going on a voyage today to answer two questions.
Find an estuary
What are the roles of marine life food web

12

Hotspot

We are traveling the Amazon River and are exploring he Marine life there. Which point is the best example of an estuary?

ENERGY DIAGRAM FOR ECOSYSTEM MASTERY

Food chain

Food web

Energy pyramid

We are trying to determine

the oxygen production
levels for the Honolulu

Beach.

How would we use science?

A. Find a comparison

measurement

B. Determine what type of

species in the area with

roles they have?

C. How much area does the

ecosystem influence?

D. Are there geological

features that influence

the area?

Teacher and us

review

14

Match

Match the following

producer

primary consumer

secondary consumer

tertiary consumer

ENERGY DIAGRAM

Time for you to shine with all that you learned

Next four slides are instructions for each point

1. how and what to measure for an experiment

2. Species influence on an area

3. what determines the extent of area for an

ecosystem.

4. What influences outside the area effect the

area. For example, wind currents, temperature
consistency, and/or water current patterns.

Ready to do this together

16

EXPERIMENT IDEAS?

What does a coral reef influence (impact on

the area or even planet?)

What to use to measure.

Can you measure the amount of
something to determine if the area is
healthy or not?

17

media

ROLES OF SPECIES

What type of species are there

Think of the food chain-

IS there producers?

Is there primary/secondary consumers?

IS there apex predators?

For example what would be a
detritivore in the coral reef

18

media

EXTENT OF THE AREA
AND GEOLOGICAL
INFLUENCES

Are there any special storms that happen in

this area?

Is there an influence of the interplanetary

movement(does the sun and moon cycle
influence what happens?)

These two are combines and the
amount of area can be measured by its
position on the planet and influences
from global functional phenomenon.

19

media

OK, THIS IS THE PROJECT

The experiment would show the area has

mor or less than usual(placebo

Does the animals with important roles

populations more or less than
usual(placebo)

Does the area have an effect on a global

scale?(is there planetary movements effect
the area?)

1.What do you think your experiment
would produce?

2.The experiment would show the
area has mor or less than
usual(placebo)

20

Match

Reorder the following

needs bacteria to fix the abiotic factor

evaporation

incineration

weathering and uplift

The dominant consumer in a energy pyramid

nitrogen cycle

hydrological cycle

carbon cycle

phosophorus cycle

apex predator
