​On the first Sunday of advent, a town called Gävle makes the ‘Gävle Goat’ –an enormous straw goat.

Sweden

​Little children leave their shoes by the window and are visited by the ‘Yule Lads’. Well behaved children get sweets; naughty children get a rotten potato.

Iceland

Families get together for a barbecue or ‘cookout’. The Christmas tree is the Pohutukawa: it blooms bright red in December.

New Zealand

​Saint Nicholas will give you presents if you are good, but if you are naughty, then, the Krampus might beat you with a stick!

​Approximately 3.6 million people eat Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) for Christmas dinner.

Japan

​Every year, the city of San Fernando holds the Giant Lantern Festival with parols (lanterns) that symbolise the Star of Bethlehem.

Philippines

The Three Kings come on the night of January 5th and most towns have a carnival-style parade.

Spain

December 26th is called Boxing Day, and was traditionally a day to give presents to the poor, but now many people go shopping in the sales!
