Creating a Safe Environment

Trivia: Did you know that training artists and designers on safe practices and emergency procedures is an important aspect of creating a safe and healthy environment for art and design?

Other important aspects include proper ventilation, providing protective equipment, and regularly cleaning and maintaining art tools and equipment.

To create a safe environment you must:

• Identify potential hazards in the art and design studio

• Ensure proper ventilation to minimise exposure to harmful fumes

• Provide protective equipment such as gloves and goggles

• Have safe storage for chemicals and materials

• Regularly inspect and maintain equipment for safety

Protective Equipment

Providing protective equipment is an important measure to ensure safety in an art and design studio.

• Protective equipment safeguards against injuries and exposure to hazardous materials.

• It includes items like gloves, goggles, and aprons.

• Proper use of protective equipment is crucial for the well-being of artists.

Safe Handling and Storage

• Store art supplies in a cool, dry place to prevent damage and deterioration.

TASKS:

1. As a class create a spider chart identifying the health & safety risks within our art room.

2. Create a risk assessment using these risks.

3. List how we can prevent hazards/risks from occurring.
