Rules for pluralizing nouns

  • If the noun ends with a vowel except -í and , add -s.

    Example: la palabra - las palabras

  • If the noun ends with a consonant, add -es

    Example: la ley - las leyes

  • If the noun ends with -z, change it to -c and add -es.

    Example: el lápiz - los lápices

  • If the noun ends with -es or -s, it does not change in the plural.

    Example: el lunes - los lunes

An indefinite article in Spanish refers to an unspecific noun. There are four types of indefinite articles in Spanish:

  • Masculine singular: un

  • Feminine singular: una

  • Masculine plural: unos

  • Feminine plural: unas

When to use indefinite articles

Indefinite articles are used to refer to one individual out of a group, to define the quantity of a noun without using any numbers, and to refer to non-specific or unknown noun.
