There are several types of floods.

River floods occur when rivers overflow their banks due to continuous rainfall or melting snow.
Coastal floods can happen during storms, like hurricanes, when sea levels rise and water washes onto land.

The 1938 Yellow River flood is one of the deadliest floods in Chinese history. It occurred after heavy rainfall and snowmelt caused the river to swell.
In an attempt to slow the Japanese invasion during the Second Sino-Japanese War, Chinese Nationalist forces deliberately breached the river's dikes.
This decision led to widespread destruction, affecting millions of people. The flood resulted in the loss of up to 1 million lives and displaced around 15 million people.

The 2010 Pakistan floods were one of the most devastating natural disasters in the country’s history. Triggered by heavy monsoon rains in July, the floods affected vast areas, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Punjab.
The intense rainfall led to rivers overflowing, which inundated homes, farmland, and infrastructure, displacing millions of people.
The impact of the floods was catastrophic, with estimates of over 1,800 lives lost and more than 20 million people affected.
