Learning Goal:
I will be able to write a short argument discussing how events or experiences influence our perspective.
3
Open Ended
How might the events depicted (shown) in the art influence (impact or affect) a person’s perspective?
An artistic representation shows coffins with the numbers of immigrants who die trying to cross the border between Mexico and the United States each year at the wall border limit in Tijuana, Mexico May 6, 2006.
4
Perspective
Your perspective is the way you see something. If you think that toys corrupt children's minds, then from your perspective a toy shop is an evil place. Perspective has a Latin root meaning "look through" or "perceive," and all the meanings of perspective have something to do with looking.
5
Argument
An argument is a claim with reasons that are supported by evidence. • Think of it as a Formula: ARGUMENT = CLAIM + REASONS + SUPPORTING EVIDENCE • An argument is different than an opinion because it is always supported by evidence and not just reasons.
6
We can examine a character’s experiences to analyze or understand their perspective.
7
Let’s Practice as we read about Tyler first meeting with Mari’s family (Pages 39-42)
