Theories
Theories for the Sphinx include:
For decades, it's been theorized the Great Sphinx of Giza may have originally been a lion-shaped natural landform that ancient Egyptians modified to form the stone-faced feline.
Scientist from New York University have tested that the theory by creating miniature, lion-like landforms from clay using fluid dynamics and discovered that it's possible that the shape of the rock inspired Egyptians to create the Sphinx.
The Great Sphinx of Giza is made of limestone and created by erosion. A theory that would support that would be, "The formation of Sphinx-like structures through erosion, explained the senior author of the study, Leif Ristroph. He said that surprisingly, sphinx-like formations can indeed result from materials eroded by fast-flowing substances."
