The Homework Ring
2
I found the homework ring at the end of
Friday’s recess. I put it into my pocket without
realizing what kind of power it had. I meant to
ask my teacher if I could take it to lost and
found. By the time we walked back to our class,
I accidentally forgot. It was either the best
thing that ever happened to me, or it was the
worst.
Our teacher gave us extra homework
that weekend. The stuff she sent home seemed
to be getting harder as the year went by. My
mom got me into the habit of getting homework
out of the way as soon as I got home. I sat at
my desk ready to knock it out. That’s when I
noticed the ring still in my pocket.

I pulled it out of my pocket for a closer look. It
was golden, but no longer had that new sparkle
to it. I figured it must’ve been old, or at least
buried in our playground for a long time. I
spotted tiny words on the inside, so I held it up,
right to my nose. They read, “One ring to do it
all.”
Not having a clue what that meant, I tried
it on my left hand. It was too big, but it made
me look cool, so I left it on. I pulled out my
monster pile of homework, set it on the desk,
and sighed. I reached for my pencil but
stopped. That’s when something magical
happened.

The ring began to glow. My pencil lifted itself up and began doing
my homework. I freaked out until I realized that it was writing all
the correct answers in perfect “me” handwriting. I texted all my
friends, but that was my mistake.
Now I have kids following me around the playground and lunch.
They keep begging to borrow the ring. I tried to bury it for good,
but it kept appearing in my pocket. It’s a curse.
