Adverbs can describe verbs. We use them to tell how someone or thing did something. Many adverbs end in -ly
Example:
He walked carefully across the frozen pond.
Walked is our verb (action).
Carefully tells how he walked across the frozen pond.
So, he walked across the pond in a careful way.

She ate her lunch quickly because she was late.
Ate is our verb (action).
Quickly tells how she ate her lunch.
So, she ate in a quick way.

Jack shouted angrily because he was in a bad mood.
Shouted is our verb (action).
Angrily tells how Jack shouted.
So, he shouted in an angry way.

The dog barked loudly at the intruder.
Barked is our verb (action).
Loudly tells how the dog barked.
So, the dog barked in a loud way.
