Adverbs can describe verbs. We use them to tell how someone or thing did something. Many adverbs end in -ly

Example:

He walked carefully across the frozen pond.
Walked is our verb (action).
Carefully tells how he walked across the frozen pond.
So, he walked across the pond in a careful way.
