What good thing has happened to you?

At the beginning of all our LeadWorthy classes, we’re going to spend time talking about the good things that have happened since we last met! These could be awards we’ve been nominated for or won, good grades we’ve received, games our teams have won, a call from a longtime friend, or whatever you want to tell us! We’ll even give each other a hand (applause) as a way of saying “great job!” Let’s talk about the good things that have happened to you since we last met!

What is your GOOD THING? On the next slide, record your Good Thing!

Attitude is Everything

If you think you can do something, then you'll likely do it. On the flip side, if you think you can’t do something, then you'll likely fail! This has to do with your thoughts about yourselves. Your attitude will determine how far you go and how you deal with difficulties and failures.

One thing that must set you apart from others is your attitude. Some say it’s your I.Q. Well, it’s not your I.Q. that sets you apart, it’s your "I can!" (fill this out on page 6 of your binder.)

Do you know who Henry Ford is? He once said:

“If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right!”

What is he trying to say?

What's the Difference?

In LeadWorthy, we like to think that the difference is about an extra 5% effort. Have you ever seen a very close finish in a track and field event, like the 100-meter dash? How much time separates the first and second place finishers? Yes, that’s right! Tenths and hundredths of seconds usually differentiates a gold medal winner and someone from not even winning a medal! It’s that extra 5% effort that will cause you to excel in the race of life.

Famous motivational speaker Charles Swindoll said, “Life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.”

What's the difference between those who do well and those who truly excel?

W.I.T WAY of THINKING

Next: Watch the video "Attitude-It's Your Choice"

Another important concept I want you to remember when thinking about attitude is what we call the W.I.T. way of thinking. W.I.T. stands for “Whatever It Takes.” This is where the extra 5% comes from. You will learn that the victory that endures is the one you win for yourself.

What Kind of Leader?

I believe people in this world can either either seek to lead or make it possible for others to lead. This creates three groups of leaders.

1. Minimal leaders: Those who only do the bare necessities to get by. These are the people that say things like, “Let someone else do it. It’s not my problem! I don’t want to get involved. Minimum leaders are the type of people who win a million dollars in the lottery yet still complain that they had to pay $300,000 in taxes!

2. Average leaders: Those who will do almost anything for the team but they are not motivated to come up with ideas on their own. These people need to understand the “why” of the situation. If they’re asking to help with something, they want to say, “I tried that last year and it didn’t work. Someone tell me why we have to do it again?”

3. EXCEL leaders: Those who will do “whatever it takes” to get the job done. These are the ones that give the extra 5%. Their attitude towards those they lead is, “My goal is your success!”

The question is, which group do you want to be in?

Multiple Choice

I solemnly swear that I have gone through this whole presentation, filled out the blanks in my binder on pages 6-7, watched the whole video, was respectful to the substitute, made sure those at my table also finished the work for today AND totally missed having Mrs. Edwards in class because she is so awesome!

1

Of course! Getting candy Tuesday totally depends on it!

2

Nah, not interested. (even though this is a grade in skyward and I will receive a zero for choosing this answer)
