Short description of the activity
In this activity, the students learn
about streotyping on different
people coming from different
backgrounds using expression of
asking and giving opinions

Activity Description
The teacher begins by giving
students pictures of different
people from the Internet/
google images (pictures are
prepared beforehand) and ask
the Ss to write down the first
adjectives that come into their
minds to describe these
people’s personalities

Activity Description
Next, the teacher asks the
students to discuss or
compare their impressions of
the pictures. The teacher asks
more deeply about the
pictures (what jobs the people
probably do, are they married,
do they have kids, etc).
Expected Answer from Ss:
Scary, Ambonese, Debt
Collector (Mata Elang/ Eagle
eyes (same meaning as debt
collector but for motorcycle
paricularly), Fierce

The teacher then divides the
students into groups of four or
five students and asks each
group to have a discussion
about stereotyping and how
not to have those kind of
prejudice…
Samples lead-in questions:
1.Are stereotypes usually accurate?
2.Are the stereotypes you have of people fair?
3.Are you a stereotype?
4.What is the stereotype of someone from
Indonesia or from where you are from? Is it fair?
5.Do you think there are any stereotypes that are
good?
6.Do movies show different nationalities as
stereotypes?
7.From what age can people become a
stereotype?
8.Do you think information technology has
reduced or increased racial stereotyping?
9.What stereotype were you at school?

Activity Description
Then each of the
groups presents their
findings to the rest of
the class, and the
teacher asks all of the
students to summarize
or reflect on
streotyping.
