Fiber

• the raw materials of which yarns are made

• long thin and hair-like

• can either be man made (synthetic like polyester) or natural (made from plants or animals like cotton)

Fabric

• Fabric traits are determined by their type, amount, size of fibers, and usage

Woven Fabrics

• Weaving is the interlacing of two sets of yarns at right angles

• The warp yarns run the lengthwise direction and form the lengthwise grain

• The weft yarns are the filling yarns that run in the crosswise direction
  

Knitted Fabrics

• the looping together of yarns

• knitted fabrics are mainly used to back other fabrics, such as upholstery fabrics

• or to create comfortable clothing with stretch (like t-shirts, sweaters, and sweatpants)
