In the last few years, sales of colouring books have increased. Why should this be? Are more children than before interested in colouring? No. The reason is that more aldults are taking up the hobby.

What does 'kidult' mean?

In the famous story, Peter Pan is a boy who never grows up. Some adults are now being compared to Peter Pan, because they still enjoy childhood activities. Colouring is not the only example. Book written for young people, such as the Harry Potter and Twilight series, are popular with many adults. In London or New York, it is not unusual to see people travelling to work by scooter. At lunch time, these same workers might stop in a cupcake shop for a sweet treat.

What does 'kidult' mean?

Businesses love kid + adult this trend, because they can sell more products. They call their new customers "kidults" (kid + adult). Kidults have money, and are keen to spend it on candy-smashing phone games and animated stickers.

What does 'kidult' mean?

In the past, adults were meant to be serious. Now, they continue to play unit their 20s, 30s, even 40s. Adult life is hard, and they want to remember the joyful days of their youth. Critics accuse kidults of being lazy and irresponsible. At 30 years old, they say, people should leave the past behind. A Doraemon pillow will not bring back their childhood! But kidults defend their choices. They ask why would anyone welcome the pressures of the adult would like marriage, financial worries and a 9-5.

What does 'kidult' mean?

The key, perhaps, is balance. it's fine for men and women to enjou youthful activitiers. In fact, play benefits the body and mind at any age. However, adults must also remember their responsibilities. Relaxing with a colouring book can be a pleasure during free time - but not full-time!
