Spyware

• Spread from one device to another - doesn't need to be attached to a file or program

• Can copy themselves hundreds of times so can spread really fast!

• Might copy itself to your email account and spread through your contacts

Worms

• Looks like a program you want

• Becomes a problem when you start that program

• You have to agree to run that program

• Can't copy itself to other computers

• Owner of the trojan gets control of device

• Can then install more malware, steal bank data etc

Trojans

• A type of trojan horse that can stop you from using your files until you pay the person who wrote the malware.

• Ransomware is malicious, there is usually a deadline to pay, and usually the cost is paid in Bitcoin.

• Can't unscramble the files without the key

• We can protect our devices with up-to-date security software and regular backups
