Why do we have to go to Confession and ask
God’s forgiveness?

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by touching and eating the
fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, sin entered
into the world and its consequences and destroyed the
relationship of God and man.
Because of God’s unconditional love, He did not let us be
saturated with sin. Instead, He established the Sacraments to
restore our relationship with him and for us to attain eternal
salvation. One of these sacraments is the Sacrament of
Reconciliation.

What is Reconciliation?

●

One of the Sacraments of Healing because it frees us
from our sins which weakens us.

●

There are different terms for the Sacrament of
Reconciliation but it is all the same sacrament and has
the power to bring us back to God. This sacrament may
be called the sacrament of Penance, the sacrament of
Reconciliation, the sacrament of Forgiveness, the
sacrament of Confession, and the sacrament of
Conversion.

What is Reconciliation?

● Jesus gave us the sacrament of Reconciliation on

Easter when He showed himself to the apostles and
told them to “receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive
the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the
sins of any, they are retained.” (John 20:22- 23).
Jesus forgives sins through the power of the Holy
Spirit and passed on that power through the
apostles, our first priests.
