I was born, March 1822 into slavery in Dorchester
County, Maryland,and died March 10, 1913.

I was an American abolitionist and social activist.

During the Civil War I worked for the Union Army,
first as a cook and nurse, and then as an armed
scout and spy.

In 1849, I escaped to Philadelphia, only to return to
Maryland to rescue my family soon after.

After escaping slavery,I made some 13 missions to
rescue about 70 enslaved people, including my
family and friends
